The Finance and Administration division consists of nine units that all work together to provide efficient and effective services to Brown University students, faculty, and staff.

Business Affairs, Auxiliary Services and Real Estate

John Luipold | Vice President

Business Affairs, Auxiliary Services and Real Estate (BAASRE) drives value for the University by maximizing the return on investment of University spend. This unit also advances excellence in the provision of services, user experience, and the financial sustainability of auxiliary enterprises. It assists Brown in achieving its mission by generating revenue and creating and fostering business, vendor, and real estate relationships.

Dining Services

George Barboza | Vice President

Dining Services believes that a vibrant community is nurtured around shared meals, making each dining moment an opportunity for connection and camaraderie. Dining strives to promote the health and well-being of Brown students by offering balanced and delicious meal options. Carefully prepared food from Dining Services is not only enjoyed in dining facilities across campus but also enhances a wide range of events at Brown from Athletic events to small academic meetings.

Facilities and Campus Operations

Michael Guglielmo | Vice President

Facilities and Campus Operations is home to a variety of functions including, but not limited to, facilities management, sustainability and resiliency, and environmental health and safety. Staff in this department ensure that the campus physical infrastructure and operations leverage the power of place to create safe, optimal, welcoming, and inspiring environments conducive to teaching, research, learning, living, and effectively conducting the business of the University. This includes the accessible, safe, and efficient movement of people and goods across campus and within buildings.

Finance and Administrative Services

Michael White | Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Finance and Administrative Services staff are financial stewards for the University who are committed to a culture that promotes trust, belonging, growth and collaboration. This unit stewards campus resources through the delivery of efficient and effective administrative services optimized to meet the needs of our faculty, staff, students and others. Finance and Administrative Services provides best in class support to end users; supports campus strategic initiatives through consulting services and project management; supports multi-year integrated financial planning; advances campus compliance with the vast array of external requirements governing our operations; and leverages, protects, and optimizes University resources to support and advance the mission of Brown.

Investment Office

Jane Dietze | Vice President and Chief Investment Officer

The Investment Office is responsible for preserving and enhancing the University’s long term financial security. Data driven and analytical, the Investment team seeks high returns that compensate for the risks associated with investment - with the goal of supporting future generations of Brown scholars.

Office of Information Technology

Christopher Keith | Vice President and Chief Information Officer

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) delivers high-quality information technology solutions and services that further Brown's ability to achieve its mission of excellence in education, research, and public leadership. With a focus on enhancing user experience and optimizing operational efficiency, OIT is a strategic partner in advancing the institution's academic and administrative goals. Additionally, the department actively collaborates with internal stakeholders and external partners to leverage emerging technologies, streamline processes, and promote digital transformation initiatives that enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the University's continued success.

Public Safety and Emergency Management

Rodney Chatman | Vice President

The Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management contributes to the quality of University life by supporting the physical safety of the campus community and University's physical assets; strengthening campus resilience; and advancing business continuity in the face of potential disruption emerging from a variety of known and unknown risks. This work includes preparedness efforts, education, inspection programs, and emergency response, all done in a manner that fosters trust and collaboration.

University Human Resources

Marie Williams | Vice President

University Human Resources (UHR) serves as a central hub for managing and supporting the University's most valuable asset—its people. Additionally, UHR plays a critical role in fostering a positive work culture, promoting fairness and equity, resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. With a holistic approach,  UHR strives to create an inclusive and supportive environment where employees can thrive, grow professionally, and contribute to the success of the University as a whole.

University Risk Management, Audit and Compliance

Matthew Gagnon | Chief Risk Officer

University Risk Management, Audit and Compliance (URMAC) is responsible for ensuring the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks within University operations. This unit oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive risk management strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard the University's assets and reputation, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. They conduct regular audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and provide recommendations for improvement.
